ABOUT CLAUDE VARGO
A Remarkable Life of Courage, Knowledge and Creativity
In Vietnam, Claude Regis Vargo
chiseled a cave out of solid granite, received his first
Purple Heart, and wrote love verses to his future wife on the backs of
C-ration cartons. A decorated Marine Corps gunner and tank commander, he served two combat tours, surviving the fighting at Hue City and the 77-day siege of Khe Sanh. Back home, he faced alcoholism, severe PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, and psychiatric hospitalization while building a life with his wife, Gloria, of 55 years, and their four children. These experiences became the foundation of his memoir,
Warrior Graduate, and its television adaptation,
Running Through Fire—a true story of war, love, and extraordinary reinvention.
Approaching fifty, Vargo enrolled at three colleges simultaneously, advanced from freshman to senior standing in one year, and completed his bachelor’s degree in two years, graduating summa cum laude in 1999. He earned his master’s in Hospitality Management in 2000 and pursued further studies at Cornell, Harvard, and the Sorbonne. His career includes consulting for global, multibillion-dollar hotel brands and speaking to fellow veterans about rebuilding life after combat. An author and songwriter, Vargo also brings his storytelling to an eclectic music catalog spanning rock, pop, hip-hop, country, gospel, and jazz.
